ARTIST STATEMENT

SUZIE

This body of work is an exploration of love, grief, and tangible memory.

My Nana, Suzie, was one of my greatest supporters. From a young age, her belief in my dreams often surpassed my own, encouraging me to pursue every opportunity with courage and curiosity.

After her passing late last year, I felt drawn to honour our special connection through the language of glass. As each piece took form, I found myself returning to our shared memories and the enduring imprint she has left on my life. The act of making became an act of remembrance, allowing grief and joy to exist together while giving form to love, memory, and absence.

 At its heart, this is a love story between a girl and her Nana.

This collection is an ode to Suzie, whose unwavering belief in me continues to shape the way I see, make and remember.

Bindi Nimmo is a glass artist from Whanganui, Aotearoa, currently practising on Kaurna Land. Working primarily with blown glass, she creates tactile forms that explore nostalgia, memory, and human connection. A graduate of UCOL, she has trained at Starworks, NZ Glassworks, and JamFactory in Adelaide, her work has been exhibited internationally, and she was a 2026 emerging finalist in the Biennial Fuse Glass Prize.
