Kate Dobbs graduated in 2005 in Whanganui with a Diploma in Glass Design and Production. After 20 years working predominately in textiles, she finds glass, by its very nature, allows for a new expression of her ideas whilst providing a strong design focus.
Primarily a glass caster, Kate is constantly exploring and experimenting with new techniques. Her work is mostly an assemblage of pieces that reflect a two dimensional vision rendered in a three dimensional object. She uses minimalist form to convey a contemporary style. One of her current projects includes investigating and pushing the boundaries of TV screen glass for sculptural application.
Kate was an artist in residency at the Whanganui Glass School in 2010, as well as actively and significantly contributing as a technical assistant and tutor.
