Greg Swinburne completed a diploma in Applied Arts at Northland Polytechnic before furthering his education in Whanganui where he specialised in glass.
‘My approach to glass is from a sculptural mindset. The Offering sculptures originally had the subtitle “Sculpture for a Zen garden” and the vessels and bowls employ similar visual language to the sculptures.
The bowls are used as a three dimensional canvas to show off the carving and sometimes to tell a story. The ‘Big mouth’ bowl references a river and harbour, but also explores the Maori influence in my largely European upbringing.’
