Greg Swinburne completed a diploma in Applied Arts at Northland Polytechnic before furthering his education in Whanganui where he specialised in glass. Greg has since worked with many well known glass artists including David Murray and Emma Camden.
‘My approach to glass is from a sculptural mindset. The Offering sculptures originally had the subtitle “Sculpture for a Zen garden” and the vessels and bowls employ similar visual language to the sculptures.
The bowls are used as a three dimensional canvas to show off the carving and sometimes to tell a story. The ‘Big mouth’ bowl references a river and harbour, but also explores the Maori influence in my largely European upbringing.’
